FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What do I actually need to have a Web site with my own .com?

We call them "dot coms", but they could just as well be called ".ca", ".net", ".org", ".biz", etc. They all represent the same thing: domain names. To have yours and link it to a Web site, you need:

  • a name to give to your domain which is as representative of your business as possible (choose a few since many good names are already taken);

  • a registrar that can proceed for you to the registration of the domain and will buy for you the rights to that name for a period that can go from one to five years;

  • a host (also known as a host server) where the domain will have a space of its own to hold the files of your Web so they can be viewed;

  • an Internet access so you can surf the Net and get the email generated by your Web address;

  • a competent Web developer to create and code the files for your Web site.
