FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What are the advantages and disadvantages of template Web sites?
Template sites can be a good solution for very small budgets or those who cannot afford a custom design. They offer the possibility of creating your Web site through an interface, based on a design that's already provided to you.
Advantages are that:
- you don't have to dish out a big lump sum for your website and usually only have to pay a set-up fee and then pay monthly instalments for the use of the automated interface;
- you can make all the modifications of your website by yourself (within the limitations of the interface) and be totally independent.
Disadvantages are that:
- after a couple of years, you realize you ended up paying as much for your template site as you would have for a reasonably sized custom designed one... but you don't own the template site. (A bit like renting a car)
- you are sharing your corporate image with many other users, which gives you a bit of a common look; and,
- if you ever wish to change hosting company for your domain, you won't be able to leave with the template and will have to start from scratch.
